Audley End and the Family

March 25, 2007

Well, Carla was here visiting us and we were lucky to see Audley End open before the official 'season'. In March and October, "the End" is open for a 'behind the scenes' tour. We were able to see areas of the house which are closed during the regular season.

We saw rooms the staff would have lived in, we walked through the children's nursery and family rooms, and saw some of the damage associated with the decay of really old houses (I'm so eloquent, ain't I?) ;)

During WWII, soldiers were housed here for some time - even some Polish soldiers. We were informed that the majority of the men were killed in a
maneuver which occurred behind enemy lines. There is a nice statue in memoriam for the Polish soldiers who died. (have I mentioned I'm Polish recently?)

May I recommend that if you've been to Audley End, you go and tour the 'behind the scenes'? It is well worth your time! ;O)
